On Wednesday, our final full day in Lebanon, we headed to the stunning Qadicha valley. These are Lebanon's real mountains and are famous for the ancient stand of Cedar trees. After visiting the cedars and the nearby (close-down for summer) ski resort, we headed to Qadicha Grotto. While not as impressive as Jeita, Qadicha Grotto was fascinating as it had a river that went rushing through it (I was careful not to fall in!).
After the grotto, we headed to lunch at a family friend's house (thanks, Joe!) in the nearby mountain town of Kfarsghab. This town is so far up that they get six feet of snow in the winter so back in Ottoman times, they actually bought a second plot of land and created a winter village closer to the coast (also named Kfarsghab). So everyone has two homes and come winter time, they move from the fruit orchards of their summer town to the olive trees of their winter town.
